The Migration Research and Training Program

The Migration Research and Training Program is an interdisciplinary program committed to the critical study and analysis of contemporary migration in the context of the prevailing globalization and transnational processes.  As the reality of migration deepens, the outcomes generate both gains and pains, benefits and costs, interwoven with each other, often crystallizing into  social issues that impede expected developments to occur.  Through research, training and public for addressing the debates arising in the process, the program aims to generate knowledge and competencies on migration issues in order to contribute to an informed and critical discourse on migration.  These initiatives are intended to minimize costs and maximize the gains for all stakeholders of the migration process.

The activities of the program to realize its objectives are the following:

(a) Summer Institute on Migration;

(b) Migration Lecture Series; and

(c) Research on critical issues on migration including the feminization of migration; children and families left behind; the social costs of migration; migration and development, and others.
