Gender, Peace and Security Program

Friday, 14 August 2009 14:46 | Last Updated (Thursday, 27 August 2009 16:33)

Through research, education, exchanges and advocacy this program highlights the gendered dimensions of war, militarism and dominant security constructs. It brings to the fore the needs, issues and concerns of women facing conflict and post- conflict situations, particularly indigenous women and Bangsamoro Women  in Mindanao. In the interest of promoting peace, the program encourages the exploration of alternative security paradigms and the promotion of policies and practices that are more inclusive of women’s perspectives, gender-responsive and people oriented. In particular, WAGI’s program on Gender, Peace and Security, develops its research and advocacy program as well as builds partnerships around the following priority agenda :

  • Gender analysis of war, militarism and security
  • Advocacy for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions(UNSCRs) 1325 and1820
  •   Women living in conflict and post-conflict situations : agents and partners for peace, human rights, gender equality, and sustainable development

While primarily responding to the Philippine context, this program builds on and nurtures local-global linkages around feminist scholarship and advocacy around issues related to “gender, peace and security”
