International Women’s Human Rights

(April 19-24, 2010)

 

Running on its 12th year, IWHR is the first academic-based women’s human rights course offered in the Philippines.  It examines the use of international human rights instruments from both gender and Asian perspectives in analyzing complex issues of discrimination, inequality and oppression brought about by the intersecting factors of class, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, and others.

 

The training is designed for educators, graduate students, NGO workers, technical staff of legislators and mid-level public servants from national agencies and other professionals who seek to deepen their understanding of women’s human rights issues and challenges and endeavor to work on the practical application of human rights instruments in their respective professions

 

For the past 11 years, we have trained more than 300 participants from the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Mexico, Thailand, Tibet, Iran, Korea, Ethiopia, Myanmar, and the US.

 

Course Content: Facts & Figures on the Status of Women; International Human Rights Law; International Agreements Related to Women’s Rights; Concepts and Issues on Women’s Human Rights (i.e. trafficking, migration, peace and security, media and ICT; gender and Islam); some laws on women (i.e. anti-sexual harassment, domestic violence, etc); and gender and trade, among others.

 

Course Methodology: Lecture discussion, open forum and sharing, group exercises/workshops,  case study analysis, study visit/exposure trip

 

Course Fee: 

Local participants:         

Php 7,500 for on-site registration

Php 7,000 for payment made on or before March 30, 2010

 

International participants:

US$ 400 for on-site registration

US $ 350 for payment made on or before March 30, 2010
